Mission

This VBS includes an exciting opportunity for your VBS kids to help kids around the world through ADRA’s new campaign, “Every Child. Everywhere. In School.” This campaign is important because one in five children worldwide are out of school and refugee children are five times more likely to be out of school. In addition, around 90% of children with disabilities in the developing world are not in school.

The campaign is an urgent call to leaders around the world that all children, regardless of race, age, nationality, gender, religion, or origin, have a right to earn and complete an education, and that being in school is a recognition of the value and potential of each individual child.

Your VBS kit includes a mission project video for each day of VBS. Kids will learn the stories of five kid heroes in different countries who overcome obstacles to go to school. The videos are hosted by Niko and Adilyn, two schoolchildren who find themselves within the pages of the colorful and curious ADRA storybook.

The leader’s guide for the Opening & Closing Program includes instructions for discussing the mission project and showing the videos during the closing program. We recommend collecting kids’ donations as they arrive at VBS on days 2–5. In addition, you can download a handout from the director’s USB and AdventSource.org that describes the mission project and encourages families to sign ADRA’s petition for this campaign. Print this handout and send it home with each kid on the first day of VBS.

Your VBS kit includes an envelope with instructions for submitting VBS mission funds. Your church’s treasurer can submit mission project funds to the North American Division using TRS code 3752 or AASI code 50120. For more details on the mission project, visit inschool.adra.org/resources
